The DepoSIt project tested the impacts of applying an innovation audit tool that integrates a number of questions exploring the social innovation potential of a small business. An RCT was carried out with the participation of SMEs from six European countries, measuring the tool's impact on knowledge, awareness, and intention to pursue social innovation. While the results were limited by sample size, the tool demonstrably increased awareness of social innovation potential among participating SMEs. Analysis of participating businesses' websites and social media accounts supported this finding, demonstrating higher engagement with social innovation topics in the treatment group. The study suggests promise for the tool in fostering social innovation among SMEs.
