Results forthcoming. A brief description of the project's goals and its current state Abstract
This study will analyze the effects of implementing a management routine at randomly chosen sewing lines within garment factories in Bangladesh in order to obtain evidence on the sources of observed productivity spillover within factories. This intervention is designed to obtain additional evidence on the sources of productivity spillovers within firms.
The full abstract of the study, if available Links https://www.socialscienceregistry.org/trials/495 Links to any published papers and related discussions Authors * Affiliations Academic and other institutes that the authors of the study are members of Delivery partner Organisations involved in delivering the trial, if appropriate Year Year Year199419951996199719981999200020012002200320042005200620072008200920102011201220132014201520162017201820192020202120222023202420252026 Month MonthJanFebMarAprMayJunJulAugSepOctNovDec Day Day12345678910111213141516171819202122232425262728293031 Journal Journal publishing the study, if available Publication stage * Working Paper Published Ongoing Research Forthcoming Discussion Paper Research theme * Entrepreneurship Innovation Business Growth Country Country or countries where this study took place. Topics What sort of topics does the study cover? Sample attributes Hypotheses / research question Do workers share more information with co-workers with home they have social ties, and if so, how does this affect productivity? Sample Trial population and sample selection There are plans to include 250 sewing lines across multiple factories. Number of treatment groups Size of treatment groups 115 sewing lines Size of control group Unit of analysis Clustered? Yes No Cluster details Trial attributes Treatment description The intervention is a mandatory supervisor-to-supervisor consultation and hands-on assembly line set-up regarding knowledge and experience of how to produce a specific type of garment that the consulting supervisor has produced before on one of his/her lines, but that the other supervisor is producing for the first time. This can involve discussions, changes of machinery and other inputs, as well as explanations to line workers. Rounds of data collection Baseline data collection and method Not available. Data collection method and data collected Evaluation Outcome variables
Daily productivity of a line on the first X days it produces a garment which it has not produced before. This is measured in 3 ways: Firms' own production monitoring measure: (piece-wise output X garment-specific "Standard Minute Value") divided by (number of workers on the line X number of daily hours the line was operating X 60 minutes). Output minutes. Average hourly output minutes per day.
Results
Not yet available.
Intervention costs Not available. Cost benefit ratio Reference Menzel, A., 2014.
