Regional Impact Evaluation of an Investment Readiness Program for Innovative Small and Medium-sized Enterprises

Many innovative start-ups and SMEs have good ideas, but do not have these ideas fine-tuned to the stage where they can attract outside funding. Investment readiness programs attempt to help firms to become more ready to attract and accept outside equity funding through a combination of training, mentoring, master classes, and networking. The World Bank Group’s Competitive Policy Evaluation Lab is conducting a regional study in five countries of the Western Balkans to determine if an investment readiness program can increase firms’ investment readiness scores and in short- and medium-term their access to equity. The 356 firms that have participated in the program made a 5-minute pitch of their business propositions to a panel of judges from around the world and will receive a score on their investment readiness.
