Xavier Cirera

Xavier Cirera is an economist in the Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship (ITE) unit in the Trade and Competitiveness Global Practice of the World Bank. He has more than 10 years’ experience working in different areas of trade and competitiveness in developing countries; mainly entrepreneurship, innovation, trade policy and competitiveness and firm level dynamics. Prior to joining the World Bank he was a Research Fellow at the institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex.

He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Sussex. His current work at ITE spans over different areas of entrepreneurship and innovation. These include supporting innovation policy programmes in Kenya, Colombia or Kazakhstan, and impact evaluations of women entrepreneurship programmes in Pakistan and Nigeria, or innovation programmes in the Western Balkans.
